Viewers outraged
POINT PLEASANT, WEST VIRGINIA – The town that was once terrorized by the infamous Mothman is buzzing with controversy once again. This time, the winged cryptid found itself at the center of a dating show scandal that has viewers and paranormal enthusiasts alike up in arms.
It all started when the producers of the reality show “Love in the Air” announced a surprise twist for their latest season: the inclusion of a legendary creature as one of the eligible bachelors. Mothman, the harbinger of doom with glowing red eyes and a 10-foot wingspan, was chosen to add an otherworldly element to the dating game.
“We wanted to shake things up and give our viewers something they’ve never seen before,” explained show host Vanessa Hawkins. “Mothman is a pop culture icon, and we thought his appearance would make for must-see TV.”
However, the decision to include the cryptid quickly backfired. During the first episode’s rose ceremony, Mothman’s piercing gaze proved too intense for the human contestants, causing several of them to faint or flee in terror.
“It was like staring into the eyes of the devil himself,” recounted Tiffany Jones, a 26-year-old dental hygienist from Miami. “I’ve never been so terrified in my life. I just grabbed my things and ran.”
Despite the dramatic reactions, Mothman remained a gentleman throughout the ordeal, according to eyewitnesses.
“He didn’t say much, but he was incredibly polite,” said Cedric Wilkins, a cryptozoologist and self-proclaimed Mothman expert. “He even offered to help some of the women who had fainted, but his presence was just too overwhelming for them.”
The backlash from viewers was swift and unforgiving. Social media erupted with accusations of insensitivity and exploitation, with many calling for the show’s cancellation.
“This is a blatant mockery of our town’s history and the tragic events surrounding the Mothman sightings,” fumed Point Pleasant resident Sarah Ellison. “It’s disrespectful to the memory of those who lived through that terrifying ordeal.”
Despite the uproar, the show’s producers remain unapologetic, claiming that their decision to include Mothman was a bold step towards embracing diversity and inclusivity in the dating world.
“Love is love, whether you’re human or cryptid,” said executive producer Marcus Brenner. “We stand by our decision to give Mothman a chance at finding his soulmate, and we’re disappointed that close-minded viewers couldn’t see past his glowing eyes.”
As for Mothman himself, his brief foray into reality TV has come to an unceremonious end. After being eliminated in the first episode, the elusive creature has retreated back into the shadows, leaving a trail of broken hearts and unanswered questions in his wake.
